DONATIONS

You can help create a future of programs and services to those in the Tourette community in Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia. Through planned gifts that benefit you as well as the Tourette Syndrome Association of Greater Washington (TSAGW.) TSAGW needs your financial support. Your contributions help fund a variety of events and programs. Your donation will not only help TSAGW expand its current programs and increase the number of events it sponsors, but will also serve as seed money for new programs as the chapter looks to the future.

GIFT OF CASH

Perhaps the most convenient method of making a gift to TSAGW is by cash or check. A gift of cash is tax-deductible for all taxpayers who itemize. Amounts up to 50 percent of your adjusted gross income may be deducted for the year the gift is made; any excess can be deducted over the next five years.

Methods of Planned Giving

PLEDGE

Gifts of cash, appreciated securities or other assets made over a period of time. For your convenience, TSAGW will send you a reminder and return envelope at the times you specify, or you can set it up on our website to have automatic deductions taken out on a monthly basis from your credit card.

WORKPLACE GIVING

The funding we receive through charitable giving campaigns provides the majority of our operating funds and is critical to the ongoing success of our chapter activities and programs.

TSAGW is counting on you to help us maintain and improve our programs and services by designating our chapter to receive your donation through the annual United Way or Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) at your place of work.

TSAGW is an enrolled participant in a number of workplace giving campaigns throughout our chapter area and the designation numbers are listed below to assist you in finding us among the many choices available to you.

  • Combined Federal Campaign - National Capital Area - 82859
  • United Way of the National Capital Area - 8739
  • Maryland Charity Campaign - 1536
  • St. Mary's County, Lower Eastern Shore and Western MD - 1536
  • Combined Virginia Campaign (state employees) - 6062
  • Combined Federal Campaign Local Virginia - Richmond, Dahlgren, Quantico, South Hampton Roads, Peninsula - 31038
  • Local Government/Schools/United Way/Private Sector Campaign - Richmond - 6062

If you don't find us in your campaign listing, please be aware that most campaigns provide the option to designate the non-profit organization of your choice - even if that organization is not listed in the designation brochure. Just write us in!

Please also ask your friends and co-workers to designate TSAGW. Many people have no personal connection to a charitable organization and appreciate knowing that their donation will make a difference to someone they know. Let others know about the work TSAGW does, the impact on your life, and our reliance on this funding through a lunch table conversation, a note on the bulletin board or an email (if permitted). It could make a big difference to our chapter with a very small effort on your part.

If you have any questions at all please call the TSAGW office anytime. And thank you for your support!

DONATIONS FOR CONGRATULATIONS AND CONDOLESCENCE

TSAGW welcomes your donations to recognize graduations, special birthdays or other important events and a lovely acknowledgement card will be sent to the individual you specify.  As well, a donation to honor a recently passed loved one (a donation in lieu of flowers) will be acknowledged with condolence card to the family citing your generous donation.  A minimum donation of $15.00 is requested.

YOU COULD DOUBLE YOUR GIFT BY JUST ASKING

That’s right...you may be able to double the amounts of your recent and future gifts to the Tourette Syndrome Association of Greater Washington if you work for a firm that has an employee matching gift program.

To make your match, simply obtain a form from your company's Matching Gift Coordinator (usually in the personnel or community relations department) and send it to: TSAGW 33 University Blvd., East, Silver Spring, MD  20901.

It could be that your company has a matching gift program even if you haven't heard about it. Why not ask?

BEQUEST

Through your will or living trust, you may be able to provide substantial support to TSAGW without diminishing the assets available to you during your lifetime. After providing for your loved ones, you may decide to give a specific amount or a percentage of your estate. If you have a taxable estate, your heirs can realize important estate tax savings from this type of contribution because a bequest to TSAGW may be deducted from the taxable estate when determining estate taxes. Often a bequest can be done with an amendment to your existing will. To give what remains of your estate after other bequests have been satisfied:

“I give, devise, and bequeath all (or a specified fraction of) the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate, whether real or personal, of every kind and description, and wherever situated to the Tourette Syndrome Association of Greater Washington, a Not-for-Profit corporation having its office at 33 University Blvd., East, Silver Spring, MD, 20901 for its general purposes.”

To give a dollar amount or percentage of your estate:

“I give, devise, and bequeath the sum of $ (or % of my estate) to Tourette Syndrome Association of Greater Washington, a Not-for-Profit corporation having its office at 33 University Blvd., East, Silver Spring, MD, 20901 for its general purposes.”

RETIREMENT PLANS

Naming TSAGW as a beneficiary for funds in a retirement plan can be easy. The person or financial institution handling your Individual Retirement Account, other retirement plan or profit-sharing account can help.

APPRECIATED SECURITIES

Gifts of stocks, bonds and mutual funds make especially attractive contributions and may offer you capital gains tax incentives when they have been held long term. In addition, amounts up to 30 percent of your adjusted gross income may be deducted for the year the gift is made; any excess can be deducted over the next five years.

REAL ESTATE OR PROPERTY

Another way to avoid or delay capital gains tax is through a gift of real estate that has been held long term. A tax deduction for the fair market value of the property is also permitted equal to up to 30 percent of your adjusted gross income. Donors are asked to complete a Real Property Disclosure Checklist prior to acceptance of the gift by TSAGW.

LIFE INSURANCE

Giving through life insurance can allow you to make a gift of assets you no longer need for your family's security. When a life insurance policy is transferred to TSAGW as a donation, the cash value of the policy can be deductible. You may also assign a policy's ownership to the Association and name TSAGW as irrevocable beneficiary. Subsequent premiums you pay are tax deductible.
